- Technology-tea light battery operated-developed so people did not have to use fire lit candle
- Engineering –create and design a lantern using specific materials
- Art-shapes, patterns and positive and negative space
- Math-counting, measuring, using tools and shape tracers
- Reinforced NGSS science standard
- Met competencies in both curriculums-color and color theme
- Focusing on positive and negative space
- Wow factor achieved-“like stained glass with the LIGHT coming through
- Student creativity and embellishment
- Struggles-children had trouble with dexterity – eye / hand coordination
- Formative assessment-discussion on various parts to the project-check for understanding-daily and final discussion upon completion
PLANNING FOR NEXT PROJECTS

- Elements of both disciples into the final product/the process
- Steps leading up to the long term goals
- Better understanding of the assignment as a result of pulling from ART and STEM
- Assess standards that ART and STEM are required to teach students
- Are ART projects more successful as a result of introducing STEM?
- Are STEM projects more successful as a result of introducing ART?
- Update Google docs with inquiry question
How can we Incorporate both ART and STEM curriculums to create effective STEAM projects?
Quick three or four question surveys and/or exit tickets asking students how they are using what they have learned in STEM and Art and how they are applying it to helping them plan, create and improve projects
